How is Vitamin C usually used?
Vitamin C is taken orallyorallyto be taken by mouth (swallowed) at a minimum dose of 20 mg per day for all ages.
- The Upper Limit (UL) for:
- infants (0 to 12 months): not established; source of intake should be from formula and food only
children
1 to 3 years: 400 mg per day
4 to 8 years: 650 mg per day
9 to 13 years: 1,200 mg per day
adolescents (14 to 18 years): 1,800 mg per day
pregnancy and lactation
14 to 18 years: 1,800 mg per day
19 years and up: 2,000 mg per day
adults (19 years and up): 2,000 mg per day
What is Vitamin C used for?
Vitamin C is a factor in the normal development and maintenance of bones, cartilage, teeth, gums, and general good health. It is used to prevent or treat scurvyscurvya condition caused by vitamin C deficiency with symptoms of nausea, weakness, loss of hair and teeth, and bleeding gums, and it is a factor in wound healing.
