    How is Iodine usually used?
    Iodine can be found in potassium iodide, sodium iodide, and kelp. It is taken orallyorallyto be taken by mouth (swallowed) or topicallytopicallyto be applied on the skin.
  • Oral:
  • The minimum daily dose of iodine is 50 µg.
  • The Upper Limit (UL) for:
  • infants (0 to 12 months): not possible to establish; source of intake should be from food and formula only
    children
    1 to 3 years: 200 µg per day of iodine
    4 to 8 years: 300 µg perday of iodine
    9 to 13 years: 600 µg per day of iodine
    adolescents (14 to 18 years): 900 µg per day of iodine
    pregnancy and lactation
    14 to 18 years: 900 µg per day of iodine
    19 to 50 years: 1,100 µg per day of iodine
    adults (19 years and up): 1,100 µg per day of iodine
    Topical: 2% iodine solution - apply as needed.
