    How is Cascara Sagrada usually used?
    Cascara sagrada is taken orallyorallyto be taken by mouth (swallowed) as dried (aged) bark steepsteepTo soak an agent (such as tea) to extract its active ingrediented in boiling water or as an infusioninfusionthe process of steeping or soaking plant material in hot or cold water to isolate its active ingredient.
  • The following recommended dosage is for adults and children 12 years of age and over:
  • preparations equivalent to 20 mg to 30 mg of hydroxyanthracene derivatives (calculated as cascaroside A) per day
    0.25 g to 1 g dried bark per day
    infusion: 1 g to 2 g dried bark per day - pour 150 mL of boiling water on dried bark and steep for 10 to 15 minutes
    Direction of use:
  • Allow 6 to 12 hours for laxativelaxativean agent that stimulates bowel movement and relieves constipation effect to occur.
    Do not use within 2 hours of another medication.
    Do not use cascara sagrada for more than 7 days.
