How is Beta-Carotene usually used?
Beta-carotene is taken orallyorallyto be taken by mouth (swallowed). It must be expressed as:
- micrograms (µg) or milligrams (mg) of beta-carotene, and
micrograms (µg) or milligrams (mg) of retinol activity equivalents (RAE)

- What is Beta-Carotene used for?
Beta-carotene is a source of vitamin A and provitamin A to help:
- maintain good health
maintain eyesight, skin, membranes, and immune function
in the development and maintenance of bones
in the development and maintenance of teeth
Dose-specific claim:
- For products providing daily doses of beta-carotene at or above the Adequate Intake (IA)/Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for vitamin A (adjusted for the life stage group), as provided in Table 1.
Helps to prevent vitamin A deficiency.
